Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a safe, effective, and convenient treatment used to rejuvenate the skin and reduce wrinkles and skin irregularities, improving the overall appearance of your skin. One of the leading cosmetic procedures performed around the world, laser resurfacing directs short, concentrated, pulsating beams of light at irregular skin, removing skin layer by layer.

Laser resurfacing is most commonly performed to:

  1. Improve the overall skin tone, texture and colour anywhere on the face
  2. Treat scars on the face especially acne scars and any other types of scars on the body.
  3. Eliminate the wrinkles that occur around the mouth
  4. Reduce or eliminate Crow’s feet
  5. Improve the appearance of skin anywhere on the body (body resurfacing)

SmartXide 2

SmartXide 2 is a very advanced technology that combines the fractional CO2 laser system with Radio Frequency – resulting in a marvellous texture and tone and offering a non-surgical face lift. This combination allows the laser to remove blemishes, wrinkles and damaged skin very efficiently, and at the same time stimulates the production of collagen, making for an extremely effective and safe procedure. As your skin heals, a new layer of fresh, young and healthy skin replaces the old damaged skin.

What will happen during laser resurfacing?

Your Doctor will protect your eyes with safety glasses and a topical anaesthesia will be applied. Sometimes you might need prophylactic antiviral medicine as directed by your doctor.

How long does each procedure take?

Half an hour or more, depending on the size of the treatment area and the depth of your treatment. The full treatment in the clinic will take around an hour.

How long does it take to recover?

The time needed for healing and recovery after laser resurfacing varies according to the size and depth of the treated area. In general, downtime is between 5-10 days and in these days you will notice slight redness and some peeling, but no pain. You will have to use a specific topical treatment as directed by your doctor and it is important to ensure appropriate sun protection.

How long does it last?

The benefits of laser resurfacing can last many years, provided the skin is well taken care of. However, as the skin ages, beneficial effects will diminish and increasingly better skin care habits are required. Remember that smoking, drinking and poor eating habits all accelerate the ageing process.

Are there any side effects?

Skin redness following the treatment only lasts a few days, and can immediately be masked with cosmetics. Potential side effects include: Burns, scarring, changes in pigmentation, reactivating herpes/cold sores, bacterial infection.

Do I need anaesthesia?

A topical aesthetic cream will be used 30 minutes before the procedure starts.
